Saint Bede Catholic Church Job Description- Coordinator of Youth Ministry
FLSA: exempt Job Status- Full Time (35 hours per week) Direct Report: Director of Evangelization
Purpose: Working with a vision of a comprehensive faith formation program across all ages, the two youth ministers will work as a team to continue to grow and develop our youth by leading them closer to Christ. This position will focus mainly on Middle School aged-children while coordinating and collaborating with the High School Youth Minister. The youth ministers creatively and energetically help form intentional Disciples of Christ within our parish. To assist in these endeavors, the youth ministry staff should actively recruit and train adults to assist in this ministry. The youth ministry position also works collaboratively with the catechetical staff to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated effort for catechesis across all ages. The position is full-time, salaried with benefits. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Collaborate together to coordinate the Life Teen Program for high school (Grades 9-12) and Edge Program for Middle School (Grades 6-8).
Plan and coordinate activities to support growth in Word, Worship, Service and Community including retreats, conferences and service trips.
Coordinate with our Pastoral Associate for Hispanic Ministry to help integrate the Hispanic youth into the youth program.
Recruit and train Adult CORE team members.
Empower the Adult CORE to take ownership of various elements in a vibrant ministry
Work with the full catechetical staff to communicate effectively with parents and to build a comprehensive faith formation ministry serving all ages.
Assist, equip, and support parents in their role as the first catechists of their children
Education: Bachelors’ degree in Theology, Religious Ed, Catholic Studies, or related field is preferred; previous youth ministry experience will be considered
Experience: some parish work preferred with an understanding of a comprehensive catechetical program
Parish Size: large
Qualifications:
The ability to collaborate in a team environment with the parish staff and, in particular, the catechetical staff
Ability to coordinate efforts between teen ministry and middle-school ministry with another youth minister
Ability to work independently
Ability to work as a team with another youth minister and with adult volunteers
Ability to understand curriculum, to work in small faith sharing groups and to train other adults for this method
Demonstrated dependability, punctuality and reliability
Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills (including planning ahead and being prepared)
Strong communication skills and proficiency with technology are essential, as well as the ability to coordinate and empower adults and teen volunteers.
