Children's Faith Formation

Pre-K - 8th Grade

CFF weekly Sunday Sessions

Children's Faith Formation provides comprehensive religious catechesis (formal religious education) for children.  It is our sincere conviction that the real aim of catechesis is to bring each child into intimate communion with Jesus Christ. We are dedicated not only to showing the children the Catholic Faith that comes to us from the Apostles but also to help form disciples of Jesus Christ who know, love and serve the Lord. Find out more...

Sacramental Preparation

The Sacramental Preparation program at Saint Bede Catholic Church is full of life and love for our Lord, Jesus Christ. We encourage the children to begin their own personal relationship with their Good Shepherd. We currently use a mix of curriclum from RCL Benziger and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.

Our program oversees and coordinates sacramental preparation for all children of the parish no matter where they attend school (private, public, or homeschooled). The program starts every year in September and ends in Spring, with First Holy Communion Mass. If your child was baptized at another Catholic or Christian church, an original Baptismal certificate is required for registration.

Per the Diocese of Richmond, the Sacramental Preparation program is separate and distinct from our Children's Sunday weekly Faith Formation and is attended along with either a weekly Faith Formation program, weekly religion classes at a private school or an approved homeschool religious curriculum.

The once a month, Sacramental Preparation sessions, here at St. Bede Catholic Church,  provide specific catechesis to ensure that the children along with the parents/guardians are prepared for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Parents/Guardians attend adult sessions while the children are in session. September through December the families prepare for First Reconciliation and the children receive First Reconciliation in January. Janaury through April, the families prepare for First Holy Communion and the children receive First Holy Communion in May.

If you are new to the area or have questions about registering your children for Sacramental Preparation, please email Rita Hipple at rhipple@bedeva.org     Find out more...

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program is a Montessori-based method of introducing young children to the love and protection of Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd.  The hands-on, age-appropriate learning techniques, or works, are developed from the eyes of a child, so children can encounter Jesus in a personal way.  Saint Bede has a Level I Atrium which supports our Children's Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation programs.

We currently have Level 1 Atrium sessions, for 3 to 6-year-olds, on Sunday mornings, during our weekly CFF sessions, from 9:30-10:40 a.m., Tuesday afternoons, from 4:30-5:45 p.m. and on Thursday afternoons, from 3:30-5:00 p.m.

To receive more information about our sessions or to register your children, please email Rita Hipple at rhipple@bedeva.org. Find out more...

Congratualtions to all of our young parishoners that made their First Reconciliation in January 2020!

Our parish will celebrate First Holy Communion Mass for all of our newly prepared children, at one Mass, on Saturday, May 2, at 10:00 a.m., with a reception to follow in our Kaplan Parish Hall. Please continue to pray for all of our children as they are preparing to receive the Lord, for the first time!

Disciples Making Disciples

"Jesus formed his disciples by making known to them the various dimensions of the Kingdom of God. He entrusted to them 'the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven' (Mt. 13:11); he taught them how to pray (Lk. 11:2); he opened his 'meek and humble heart' to them (Mt. 11:29).  The fundamental task of catechesis is to achieve the same objective: the formation of disciples of Jesus Christ." - National Directory of Catechesis, 59.

Volunteers always needed: Give the Gift of Time and Talent

The foundation of our Children's Faith Formation program cannot happen without the stewardship gifts of time and talent so generously provided by our volunteer Formation Team members. We have a wonderfully diverse group of faithful volunteers that range from older siblings, students at the College of William and Mary, parents to grandparents! With almost 400 children in our faith formation sessions, the participation of all these amazing and faithful servants of God  is essential to making your child’s experience the best that it can be!

Homeschoolers

If you choose to homeschool your child for their weekly faith formation, please contact our Children's Faith Formation office, so we may have an accurate record of all children in Saint Bede parish who are receiving faith formation.  If your child has been baptized, is at least 7 years of age, and is ready to prepare to receive their First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion, please visit our Sacramental Preparation Program page for more information.

Vacation Bible School

We are very excited to announce that VBS 2020 will be held at St. Bede Catholic Church the week of July 13-17. Theme and registration information will be out early Spring.

VBS is a week-long summer program to connect the children and families in our community to the love of Jesus Christ.  Adults and teen volunteers take children on an exciting journey into the Christian faith.

Since 2003, this wonderful program has been an ecumenical collaboration between Saint Bede Catholic Church and Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, serving the children from all local churches and the greater Williamsburg communities.
