Children's Faith Formation

Pre-K - 8th Grade

CFF weekly Sunday Sessions

UPDATE: Thank you to all of the families who participated in our "AT HOME" CFF packets of curriclum, through this past school year, during the Covid pandemic! We hope this past year brought new life to your own domestic church!

We are looking forward to seeing everyone again, in the Fall of 2021!

Blessings and Thank you!

Children's Faith Formation provides comprehensive religious catechesis (formal religious education) for children.  It is our sincere conviction that the real aim of catechesis is to bring each child into intimate communion with Jesus Christ. We are dedicated not only to showing the children the Catholic Faith that comes to us from the Apostles but also to help form disciples of Jesus Christ who know, love, and serve the Lord. Find out more...

Sacramental Preparation

UPDATE: Thank you to all of the families who participated in the Sacramental Preparation program this year, during the Covid either in person or via Zoom!

We have one more month of sessions to complete in April 2021 and then celebrate First Holy Communion Mass on Sat. May 1 at 11:00 a.m.

If there are any children from the Prep class from the 2019-2020 school year that has not received First Holy Communion yet, please contact Rita at the office, so your children can join this years' children on May 1! Thank you.

The Sacramental Preparation program at Saint Bede Catholic Church is full of life and love for our Lord, Jesus Christ. We encourage the children to begin their own personal relationship with their Good Shepherd. We currently use a mix of curriculum from RCL Benziger and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Find out more...

Our program oversees and coordinates sacramental preparation for all children of the parish no matter where they attend school (private, public, or homeschooled). The program starts every year in September and ends in Spring, with First Holy Communion Mass. If your child was baptized at another Catholic or Christian church, an original Baptismal certificate is required for registration.

Per the Diocese of Richmond, the Sacramental Preparation program is separate and distinct from our Children's Sunday weekly Faith Formation and is attended along with either a weekly Faith Formation program, weekly religion classes at a private school, or an approved homeschool religious curriculum.

The once a month, Sacramental Preparation sessions, here at St. Bede Catholic Church,  provide specific catechesis to ensure that the children along with the parents/guardians are prepared for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Parents/Guardians attend adult sessions while the children are in session. September through December the families prepare for First Reconciliation and the children receive First Reconciliation in January. January through April, the families prepare for First Holy Communion and the children receive First Holy Communion in May.

If you are new to the area or have questions about registering your children for Sacramental Preparation, please email Rita Hipple at

Vacation Bible School

UPDATE: VBS 2021 ...unfortunately, with the current "6-feet" distancing restrictions and limited space, we are not able to plan to host VBS this summer. If restrictions change enough with ample notice to plan VBS, we will revisit our options, and let everyone know via this website!

We can not wait to have all the children back and celebrate God's love with them SOON!!!

Disciples Making Disciples

"Jesus formed his disciples by making known to them the various dimensions of the Kingdom of God. He entrusted to them 'the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven' (Mt. 13:11); he taught them how to pray (Lk. 11:2); he opened his 'meek and humble heart' to them (Mt. 11:29).  The fundamental task of catechesis is to achieve the same objective: the formation of disciples of Jesus Christ." - National Directory of Catechesis, 59.

Volunteers always needed: Give the Gift of Time and Talent

The foundation of our Children's Faith Formation program cannot happen without the stewardship gifts of time and talent so generously provided by our volunteer Formation Team members. We have a wonderfully diverse group of faithful volunteers that range from older siblings, students at the College of William and Mary, parents to grandparents! With almost 400 children in our faith formation sessions, the participation of all these amazing and faithful servants of God is essential to making your child’s experience the best that it can be!

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

We will continue to look forward to a "more normal" school year in the fall of 2021, so we may again host CGS-Atrium sessions for all of the parish little ones!

CGS LEVEL 1 TRAINING UPDATE: Level 1 catechist training is ON and at FULL CAPACITY!

We will be hosting once a month training weekends here at Saint Bede, for Level 1 CGS certification. The weekend dates start in May and will continue through December 2021.

Thank you for your patience while we waited through this past year!

Email Rita Hipple at for more details.

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program is a Montessori-based method of introducing young children to the love and protection of Jesus Christ as the Good Shepherd.  The hands-on, age-appropriate learning techniques, or works, are developed from the eyes of a child, so children can encounter Jesus in a personal way.  Saint Bede has a Level I Atrium which supports our Children's Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation programs.

To receive more information about our sessions or to register your children, please email Rita Hipple at Find out more...
