Confirmation Preparation 2017-2018:

Information Session for Candidates and Parents: Monday Sept. 11, 2017 @ 7pm in Kaplan Hall

Confirmation Interview: Sign-up here

Candidates are expected to meet with a youth minister in preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please contact Deacon Grimm or Ginny Gazewood to schedule an interview.

Confirmation Prep Nights: Those preparing to be confirmed are required to attend all "Ten11 Nights," those designated for sophomores & juniors.

Please note that attendance at Confirmation prep sessions and participation in small group discussions is an integral part of formation for the sacrament. Failure to attend at least 80% of the Ten11 Nights, or to complete make-up work in the event of extended absence, may result in referral to a second year of Confirmation prep before receiving the sacrament. We understand that illness, family situations and emergencies do happen, so if you do miss more than one session please contact Deacon Grimm to arrange for make-up work. We will do our best to accommodate extenuating circumstances and the needs of your family. Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance!

Recognizing the diversity of needs in our community, it is our hope to serve all of God's children regardless of physical, cognitive, social, sensory, or other differences.  If your teen requires special accommodations in order to thrive in a ministry environment, please let us know how we can work with your family to offer appropriate curriculum or pastoral adaptations.

What is the Catholic Church's teaching on the Sacrament of Confirmation?

"Incorporated in the Church through baptism, the faithful [...] are more perfectly bound to the Church by the sacrament of Confirmation, and the Holy Spirit endows them with special strength so that they are more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith, both by word and by deed, as true witnesses of Christ." (Lumen gentium 11)

Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1302-1303
It is evident from its celebration that the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost.

From this fact, Confirmation brings an increase and deepening of baptismal grace:
- it roots us more deeply in the divine filiation which makes us cry, "Abba! Father!";
- it unites us more firmly to Christ;
- it increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us;
- it renders our bond with the Church more perfect;
- it gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross:

Recall then that you have received the spiritual seal, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right judgment and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence, the spirit of holy fear in God's presence. Guard what you have received. God the Father has marked you with his sign; Christ the Lord has confirmed you and has placed his pledge, the Spirit, in your hearts. [St. Ambrose, De myst.]
