Sacramental Preparation Program 2017-2018:

Saint Bede Catholic Church welcomes families seeking First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion for their baptized children who are at least 7 years of age by September 1st.

The Sacramental Preparation Program at Saint Bede Catholic Church oversees and coordinates sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion for all children of the parish no matter where they attend school.  Please note that instruction on the sacraments received at Catholic schools or being homeschooled does not fulfill the Diocese's requirement for sacramental preparation, and that it is the responsibility of parents/guardians to approach the parish to request sacraments for their children.

Children preparing to receive the sacraments must be enrolled in our parish Sacramental Preparation Program, and concurrently receive faith formation through participation in the parish Children's Faith Formation Program, Catholic school, or if homeschooled, through study of an approved religion curriculum.

This will be a special year for you and your child.  Seeing the Mass and the sacraments anew through the eyes of a child as they learn about the Mass and prepare for the sacraments can be a meaningful and spiritual experience for the whole family.

Parents and parish collaborate to prepare the children to receive the sacraments through a combination of parent-led home learning, and a limited number of parish-based, catechist-led sessions for children.  Children should also participate regularly with their family in the Sunday Mass.

Parent-led Learning

Parents/Guardians are provided with a book to work through with their child at home to prepare them for receiving their First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.  The parish provides learning objective/study guide sheets to parents throughout the program prior to each parish-based child groupsession.

Catechist-led Sessions

Children preparing to receive the sacraments will attend a total of eight (8) catechist-led sessions to prepare for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion - four sessions for each sacrament, one session per month from September - April.  The catechist-led sessions are designed to reinforce and supplement what the children are learning at home.  Parents should work with their children on the “Before the Session” prep guidelines that are on the study guide provided by the parish during the 3-4 weeks prior to the child session.  Multiple groups are provided on different days to help accommodate busy family schedules.

How to Enroll Your Child in the Program: Registration is open NOW for  the 2017-2018 school year!

  • Please complete and submit an Enrollment form  and $45.00 fee for each child entering the program. This fee is SEPARATE from the Sunday Chilrden's Faith Formation fee.

  • If your child was not baptized here at Saint Bede parish, you must obtain a new baptism certificate with the church seal from your child's church of baptism, or from the Military Archdiocese (Note:  Original 'keepsake" certificates received at time of baptism will not meet our needs).  The baptism certificate should be submitted with the Enrollment Form and fee.

  • If you have recently moved to the area and need to enroll your child into the Sacramental Preparation program, to finish a program that was already started at a previous parish, please provide a letter from the previous parish stating that you child was attending the Sacramental program.

  • Parents/guardians must attend an information meeting to receive instructions, session schedules and their child's book. This meeting will also help parents deepen their own understanding of the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion and prepare them for their role in the home-based component of the Sacramental Preparation Program.
